Files never leave your browser. All conversion happens on your device.

Our free png to jpg converter shrinks oversized PNG screenshots and graphics into compact JPG files that are easy to share. PNG is a wonderful format for crisp graphics, but screenshots and design exports often weigh several megabytes. Pixel File converts them to JPG in seconds, right in your browser, with no upload and no signup, so the files fly through email and messaging apps instead of getting rejected.

How to use the PNG to JPG converter

  1. Drop your PNG file onto the converter above, or browse to select it from your device.
  2. The conversion runs automatically in your browser, typically in under a second.
  3. Download your new JPG file and share it anywhere, email, chat, or social media.

How it works

PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is great for logos and text but wasteful for photos and screenshots with lots of color variation. When you convert png to jpg with our tool, your browser draws the PNG onto an HTML canvas and re-encodes it using JPEG compression, which discards detail the human eye barely notices. Nothing is uploaded to a server, so your screenshots and documents stay private on your device.

The honest tradeoff: JPG compression is lossy, so the converted file is not a perfect pixel-for-pixel copy of the original. For screenshots, photos, and casual sharing, the difference is invisible. For razor-sharp text or a logo you plan to edit again later, keep the PNG. This tool is about making files small and shareable, not about archival quality.

When PNG to JPG makes sense

  • Screenshots. A full-screen PNG screenshot can hit 3 to 5 MB; as a JPG it drops to a few hundred kilobytes with no visible change.
  • Email attachments. Many inboxes cap attachments at 10 to 25 MB. JPGs let you send far more images per message.
  • Messaging apps. Faster uploads, faster downloads, and no more “file too large” errors.
  • Web uploads. Profile pictures, marketplace listings, and forms that demand small JPG files.

Worked example

Imagine you take a screenshot of a dashboard for a colleague. The PNG saves as dashboard.png at 4.2 MB, too big for your company’s email limit. You drop it into the converter above and download dashboard.jpg at 380 KB, about one eleventh of the original size. The text in the screenshot is still perfectly readable, and the email goes through on the first try.

PNG to JPG FAQ

What happens to transparency when I convert PNG to JPG?

It is lost, and this is important to understand. JPG has no transparency channel, so any transparent areas in your PNG become solid white in the JPG. If the transparency matters, convert to WebP or keep the PNG instead.

When should I keep the PNG instead of converting?

Keep the PNG when you need perfect crispness or transparency: logos, icons, line art, graphics you will edit again, or images with sharp text that must stay razor sharp. Convert to JPG when the goal is sharing, uploading, or emailing, and small file size matters more than pixel perfection.

Will a JPG from a PNG look blurry?

Not at normal viewing sizes. Our converter uses a high quality setting, so screenshots and graphics look clean on screens. Extreme zooming can reveal slight softening around sharp edges, which is the nature of JPEG compression.

How much smaller will my file get?

It depends on the image. Screenshots typically shrink 80 to 90 percent. Flat graphics with large solid areas can shrink even more, while busy photos may only shrink 50 to 70 percent because there is less redundant data to discard.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs 100 percent in your browser using the HTML canvas. Your PNG never travels over the network, which makes this safe for work documents, personal screenshots, and anything sensitive.

Is there a limit on how many files I can convert?

No limit at all. No account, no watermark, no daily cap. Convert as many PNG files as you need, one at a time.
